On the 9th June 2026, Teach For Sierra Leone had the honour of welcoming members of the Irish Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade to Vaama Community in Moyamba during their official visit to Sierra Leone.
The delegation, comprising 2 Members of Parliament, Hon. Cathy Bennett and Senator Joe O’Reilly, accompanied by Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone H.E Patrick McMagnus, Barry Tulmety Parliamentary Adviser, Anne Marie Callan African Director, Carol Hannon, Wendy Jacobs and Cecilia Browne, engaged in meaningful conversations with TFSL’s Fellows, community members, and local leaders.
The visitors were warmly welcomed by the Student Leadership Council, who presented flowers to them, followed by a vibrant display of community dance and song, setting a heartfelt tone for the engagement.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to witness and hear firsthand about the realities, challenges, and successes within the community, as well as the transformative role Fellows are playing in advancing educational opportunities and leadership development for children and young people. They also visited the Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom, as well as all three classrooms where TFSL Fellows are currently teaching, observing learning activities and engaging with both pupils and Fellows.

Through open dialogue and community engagement, Fellows shared their experiences of teaching and leading change in their schools, while community members highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in creating brighter futures for the next generation.
The delegation expressed how impressed they were with the work being done by our Fellows and the wider community, commending the dedication, impact, and commitment demonstrated on the ground.

We are grateful for the continued partnership and support of the Irish Government through Irish Aid. Visits like these reaffirm the importance of investing in education, listening to community voices, and working together to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.

Together, we are building a Sierra Leone where every child can unlock their full potential through quality education and strong community partnerships.
