Fellow Spotlight: Catherine Naomi Conteh
In Vaama Community, Moyamba District, Teach For Sierra Leone Fellow Catherine Naomi Conteh is transforming early childhood education through dedication and strong community collaboration.

Upon her arrival at Roman Catholic Primary School Vaama, the Early Childhood Development (ECD) class lacked a safe and suitable learning environment, operating in an unfinished and unsafe structure. Recognising the urgent need for change, Catherine worked closely with community members to transform the space into a safe, welcoming and conducive learning environment for young learners.

Her impact extends beyond the classroom. Through active community engagement, Catherine mobilised support to address the broader needs of her pupils. As a result, children now have access to uniforms, daily meals and proper seating, creating a more supportive and inclusive learning experience.
Today, pupils attend school with renewed confidence, enthusiasm and a sense of belonging. The once unsafe space has been transformed into a place of opportunity where children can learn, grow and thrive.

Catherine’s work reflects the power of leadership rooted in purpose and the importance of community partnership in driving sustainable change in underserved communities. Her story is a powerful reminder that when passion meets action, meaningful and lasting impact is possible.
